A Pair of Red Clogs

A new week, and new book! For the remaining portion of the year most of the books are scheduled in two week portions. Typically lessons cover literature, geography, art, culture, social studies, science, and sometimes math. We also plan for a story related hands on craft on week 1 and a field trip on week 2.

This week we are exploring A Pair of Red Clogs.

Amazon's description: A child's delight in a new pair of shoes is the same all over the world, whether the shoes are patent-leather sandals, straw alpargatas, deerskin moccasins, or wooden clogs.

For Mako, a little Japanese girl, the new shoes were clogs painted with red lacquer that shone beautifully. This is the story of what happened after she cracked the new clogs playing the weather-telling game and so longed for a bright, shiny new pair to replace them that she almost did a dishonest thing.

It's a very well written book! I am enjoying it myself!

This weeks craft was a paper flower activity created by recycling magazine pages. Playing off the thought of using what you have... They turned out very cute!

Abigale's semester for her extension classes officially begins next week. This week we are diving back into our Five in a Row curriculum as well as dance and art are back in session.

This weeks book is Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening, which is an illustrated Robert Frost poem.

Revival

Considering a revival of the old blog...

Of course, it is easy in the calm of the storm (of business) to feel like I can take on limitless projects. As I rea back on old pos I am realizing that I appreciate reading those little glimpses of our life. So... Making an attempt... Seeing how it goes... Making no promises!

Wish me luck. :)
